Automotive Seminars with Würth Elektronik: EMC-compliant Optical High-speed Connectivity

Würth Elektronik and KDPOF will jointly present “EMC-compliant optical high-speed connectivity in automotive applications” in an automotive seminar on November 30, 2023 near Stuttgart, Germany. Designed by engineers and technicians, the seminar aims at people interested in practice-oriented content, to get support in the development of error-free electronics and devices. Francisco Sierra, RF Design Engineer at KDPOF, will give insights into our optical technology and present a Flyback Converter with common and differential mode interference. Live demos with plenty room for questions will round up the seminar day.

We’re proud of our technological cooperation with Würth Elektronik, one of the leading manufacturers of electronics and electromechanical components in Europe. Together we are advancing automotive multi-gigabit Ethernet over fiber optics. Read more

KDPOF Will Present at Digital WE Days by Würth Elektronik

From October 16 to 19, 2023, Würth Elektronik will organize their “Digital WE Days 2023“. It’s a virtual event with a comprehensive conference program with practice-oriented presentations for you to enjoy. All presentations are live and totally free. On October 17 at 13:30 CEST, Óscar Ciordia will present “Optical multi-gigabit links for automotive“.

Modern automobiles integrate numerous functionalities that require high-speed links for their proper functioning, for example, cameras, radars, displays, sensors, etc. Current solutions based on copper cables do not successfully satisfy automotive requirements at a reasonable cost. However, with the incorporation of fiber optics, KDPOF makes possible optical multi-gigabit links for harsh environments at a low cost. The technology makes these links much more efficient while providing greater reliability and low-cost implementation.

Registration is open now. Please register individually for each presentation slot. See the complete program and chose your presentation slot. On the day of the presentation you only have to login with the link from the confirmation e-mail.

In case you’ve missed the presentation, you can watch the replay.

KDPOF will present “nGBASE-AU: New Multi-gigabit Glass Optical Fiber Automotive Ethernet Standard” at 2023 IEEE SA Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day (E&IP@ATD) from September 19 to 20, 2023 at Novotel São Paulo Jaragua Conventions in São Paulo, Brazil. We’re happy to invite you to our exclusive and brand-new multi-gigabit demo “Unveiling the Future of Automotive Optical Networks” with a traffic generator from AUKUA Systems. The setup will be available at scheduled sessions in a private meeting room. In order to book a free space for the demo presentation, please contact us beforehand or visit us onsite at stand 2.

KDPOF receives IPCEI investments to build an optoelectronics packaging plant in Spain

KDPOF proudly announced that the European Commission has granted access to the 8.1 billion European investment IPCEI for their projected packaging plant for optoelectronic devices in Spain. “The funding supports us in making our plans of manufacturing ICs in Europe come true in the near future,” stated Carlos Pardo, CEO and Co-founder of KDPOF. “European fabs only manufacture approximately 10 percent of semiconductors worldwide, making us dependent on Asia and the United States. We will pioneer the manufacturing of automotive optoelectronics in Spain in high volume, thus reducing this dependency.” Read more

KDPOF Celebrates Release of IEEE 802.3cz-2023 Standard

KDPOF welcomes the publication of the IEEE 802.3cz-2023 standard “IEEE Standard for Ethernet Amendment 7: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for multi-gigabit glass optical fiber automotive Ethernet” with the final release by the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA). This amendment to IEEE Std 802.3-2022 adds Physical Layer specifications and management parameters for 2.5 Gb/s, 5 Gb/s, 10 Gb/s, 25 Gb/s, and 50 Gb/s operation on glass optical fiber in an automotive environment. Video: Overview on Optical Multi-gigabit Connectivity in Vehicles

In order to fulfil the needs of future connected and automated vehicles, our next-generation automotive Ethernet provides high-speed links up to 100 Gb/s over glass optical fibers (GOF). Instead of various port components, the new solution delivers a single-component, complete automotive multi-gigabit system. The new connector systems are very small, light-weight, and extremely inexpensive compared to the previous ones. With cost-down and consistency in focus, optics, fibers, connectors, and electronics already developed for nGBASE-SR are leveraged. The according IEEE 802.3cz Standard is in the final release phase.

Retrospect of webinar “New IEEE 802.3cz Standard: multi-gigabit links for automotive”

In April, we’ve had our well-attended online presentation “New IEEE 802.3cz Standard: multi-gigabit links for automotive”. Many thanks to all that attended the first webinar in our virtual space at Koonstel, organized in cooperation with Secpho. We’ve shown details of the new IEEE 802.3cz Standard and IC uses cases. Also, attendees learned about new fiber and connectors for these new applications. The new IEEE 802.3cz standard defining multi-gigabit optical Ethernet using graded-index glass optical fiber for automotive applications is in final review and we’re eagerly expecting the publication.
