Industry analysts predict 100 percent of new cars to be Internet-enabled by 2025, an industry revolution that will redefine the driving experience. As a result of the significant increase in volume and complexity of in-car electronics, demand for connectivity solutions that offer low-cost, high speed transmission and bandwidth is on the rise. KDPOF´s technology is currently being standardized by IEEE under the 802.3 group with the name of 802.3bv and will soon be part of the leading communication technologies globally known as Ethernet.

The new 1000BASE-RH standard defines a PHY layer for Gigabit communication over Plastic Optical Fiber. Optical communications are the optimum solution for the future broadband automotive networks as they are electromagnetically immune which is a key on the ever-growing  presence of electrical and hybrid power trains.

The event was attended by telecom operators, ISPs and OEMs from all over the world. KDPOF´s and CASACOM´s technology and product proposal caused a great impact on stand visitors as it represents a solution to the ever-growing issues with the home network of its customers.

Plastic Optical Fiber will be part of the Ethernet set of medias delivering true Gigabit speeds

ATLANTA, Jan. 15, 2015  — IEEE, the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, announced the formation of a new working group under the IEEE 802.3 team. The new working group will be drafting a standard that is intended to support Gigabit transmission over Plastic Optical Fiber in key markets like automotive, Professional and Home Networking.

The proposed IEEE 802.3bv new working group  “Gigabit Ethernet over Plastic Optical Fiber” is intended to specify operation over at least 15 meters of POF in automotive environments and 50 meters for Professional and Home networking applications. It will support full duplex operation with a data rate of 1000 Mb/s at the MAC/PLS service interface. The bit error ratio will be better than or equal to 10-12 at the same service interface. Finally, optional Energy-Efficient Ethernet specification will be delivered too.

In standards development, the IEEE-SA offers the flexibility of either individual- or entity-based methods. In the individual method, participants are individual persons representing themselves, and each individual participant has one vote.
